SUMMARY:Postdoctoral fellow position in modelling dynamics of neuronal networks available at the University of Exeter - deadline 7 May
DESCRIPTION:Dear Colleagues\, \nI am seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (PDRF) for a duration of 3 years starting September 2024 as part of the UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship: “Using Mathematics to Disentangle the Role of Synaptic Communication.” This interdisciplinary fellowship aims to develop new technology and algorithms to modulate synaptic interactions in neuronal network cultures. \nThe primary role of this PDRF will be to develop and analyse mathematical models of synaptic communication in cultured neuronal networks. These models will provide a mechanistic framework for understanding how synaptic properties\, such as axonal propagation delays and connectivity maps between neurons\, shape electrical rhythms will thus provide insights into fundamental neuronal computations. Predictions and analysis from the models will be tested in novel multielectrode array experiments\, to be performed by other members of the team. \nI am interested in applications from self-motivated\, innovative and creative candidates with a PhD in a relevant field (or equivalent experience)\, expertise in at least some of the above techniques\, excellent communication skills\, and an ability to work independently and in an interdisciplinary team\, comprising electrophysiologists\, mathematicians\, and research software engineers. I encourage applications from diverse academic backgrounds\, such as applied mathematics\, neuroscience\, computer science\, physics and engineering. \nThe post will be based in the Living Systems Institute\, the University of Exeter’s flagship research institute\, which brings together bioscientists\, mathematicians\, and physicists to use techniques from across these disciplines to tackle the fundamental questions of life. \nThe full job description\, including the application form\, can be found here: https://tinyurl.com/bddmxfee \nFurther details about the lab can be found here: https://lsi.exeter.ac.uk/groups/wedgwood-group/\nand more details about the Living Systems Institute here: https://www.exeter.ac.uk/livingsystems/ \nDeadline for applications: 7th May 2024. \nPlease circulate to anyone you think might be interested in this post. \nBest wishes\, \n——————————\nKyle Wedgwood\nLiving Systems Institute\nUniversity of Exeter\n——————————
